The film Nuba of Gold and Light (France and Morocco, 2007, 80 min., dir. Izza Genini, Arabic, French, and Spanish with English subtitles) tells the story of nuba, a style of music that dates back more than 500 years. Its roots can be traced to some of Morocco's most remote areas and to Arabia, where it flourished in the courts of the Andalusian caliphs, gained strength in medieval Spain, and mingled with the songs of the troubadours and the Sephardim.
Written and produced by Genini, known as the grande dame of Moroccan documentaries, Nuba reveals the history of the classic melodies of Andalusia, which still resonate today with generations around the world.
The film will be followed by a light Moroccan-style reception.
