CD of NUBA

Audio CD of the film Nuba of Gold and Light

These recordings are taken from the feature-length documentary by Izza Genini “Nuba d’or et de lumière” (Nuba of gold and light). Like the film, this CD retraces the history of Arab-Andalous music, whose symphony is the nuba.
From Cordoba to the Gibraltar strait, we follow the rhythm of the three times of the al-Andalous civilisation — Birth, Apogee and Decline. They have left their marks in the oriental muwwashshah, in the Cantigas de Santa Maria of King Alfonso X, in Sephardic songs and in the art of the nuba.

Featuring: the orchestra of Abdelkrim Raïs de Fès, Ihsan Rmiki, the Ensemble el-Awj, Anas Belhachmi, Françoise Atlan, Noureddine Tahiri, The musicians of the Hanhafta Café in Tangiers, Tetouan’s Conservatory Orchestra and female choir.
